67.5 2000 engine block

Post by spl310 »

I just came into another 67.5 2000 engine block. I would assume that someone out there with a half year 2000 would like to get a period block for their car. I doubt that we could find the car it goes to though. All that being said, what would you think that the value of such an item may be? I have not done anything other than bring it home at this point. I need to pull a few parts off of it that I want for myself, but I will be parting with the block at some point.

Can you share the Engine #. Thanks.

If I own the car with the matching # engine, it is worth a bunch. Personally, I'd pay a primium for the the non-smog head.

Otherwise,a U20 is a U20. All of them are pretty pricey/valuable.

If I recall correctly, it is in the 580s. I am keeping the non smog head. I may let one of those loose in time as I have a couple, but I'm not ready to part with one just yet.

Curiousity only....
Is there any difference in 2L blocks other than s/n stamping?
In other words, is there anything to look for that distinguishes a 67.5 year block?

Just the serial number that I am aware of. The accessories have variations - such as the oil filter base on the 67.5 has a steel square head plug in it for some reason.

My car is #588, engine number #1000 on the tag, but #540 block now from the previous owner change for unknown reasons... though the original valve cover I had for it had clearly been "vented" and welded up, likely by an errant timing chain!

I appreciate that Sid. I've kind of been out of the scene for a while. I have decided that I am going to repair the original body for #60. A lot of rust to deal with, and will need to replace the rockers and A pillar on the drivers side. The early 2000 bodies are a bit different where the metal is pinch welded on the rear clip. I think it was just too valuable to scrap. I sold the donor body to a guy up in Canada who is also restoring a 67 2000.

Early 67.5 1600 bodies are identical except for the license trim holes.

That block is actually really close to what I need. Are we bidding?

I’m kidding, it’s all you! But, if you decide you don’t want it, lemme know!

Actually Sid the early 67 2000 bodies and the 67.5 1600 bodies are a little different from the later bodies of the same year. The bracket for the battery tie down is welded to the body on the really early bodies of 1600 and 2000, and the later ones bolt on. There are a couple of other minor differences, one of them being the seams on the rear quarter panels are different from the fender well back. There is a third and third difference but I can’t quite remember what that was.

I know that they are different from early to late. My point is that of the same vintage the only difference is the holes for the license trim.
