Brass Plaque on Glove Box Door?
I picked up a very nice Glove Box Door for my 65.
It came with an interesting Bonus. A brass Plaque 2 by 1 inches.
Its says;
"Gran Prix Rallye II
"Oct 30, 1966"
and what I think is , UCLA and SCC or SCG.
Any insights?

Re: Brass Plaque on Glove Box Door?
My old friend Google found this.
There was a race on that day in that place.
Looks like the same course outline!
But I did not see a Datsun.

Cool find! Perhaps the Datsun was in a support race before the big boys went out to play.
There are a lot of very famous names on that list!!

Neat.
I would watch a TV show that traces the history of ownership and events for interesting or unique cars.
Long lost family. For cars. Somebody should do that.

Re: Brass Plaque on Glove Box Door?
There were other Production races that day, as well as the Grand Prix. There was a G Production race that day, which was the Roadster class at the time.
As a very interesting note: There was a championship race at Riverside one month later, Nov. 26, 1966. Bob Sharpe, Fred Baker, Elouise Norris and Lee Herbert all ran Roadsters.
Wouldn't it be cool if we could attribute that glove box door to one of those cars??!

That's the long course at Riverside. I went to that race, sadly I have lost track on any pictures and much if any of the memories from back than.
I found no supporting SCCA Nation race in Riverside.
This race was a Can-Am

Wow, who would have thought such a small bit of information would produce such amazing responses.
I'm going to try and find out from the person from whom I git the glove box door if they have any info on the history of the plaque.
Thanks to all for the incredible info!

Re: Brass Plaque on Glove Box Door?
My thoughts exactly. That list was about anyone/everyone that I dreamed of being (except maybe Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt, and Sir Jack Brabham...and a few other F1 guys...) Great trip down memory backstretch. When I was eleven (then), it was just fun to say Lothar Motschenbacher! But my favorite bit of info was to see the entrant of Norm Smith's Lola T70...'Reagan for Governor Committee'

Re: Brass Plaque on Glove Box Door?
My guess is that since it said "rallye II' is that it was maybe a sports car get-together/drive on that weekend, maybe? (...for the second year)....and I'm with Toptech360, I'd watch a show as he/she described. Carini did one episode with a Packard, I think, that belonged to Phil Hill, to his family. Not really a lost and found story, but still I enjoyed the historical aspect, and the family ties.
