Which 4 Link set up for 8.8 Ford in 67.5 Roadster

Post by IH8-V8 »

Howdy Folks. I recently purchased a southern 8.8 Ford rear end (with discs and posi) for a 67.5 Datsun, and I like to hear what 4 Link set up / company folks use for this swap. I have a very experienced fabricator who has done numerous rear end swaps, but I figured I check and see if there is a preferred company that folks have used on the roadster platform.

The car will be a weekend warrior with an SR20DET.

Would y'all recommend me researching 510's? I've come across quite a few 510s with 8.8's.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I would question the fundamental choice between the leaf spring suspension and a four link setup.
I get why we all like the four link set up, but there are so many variables and so many things to go wrong, so many ways to adjust (and miss adjust) a 4-link setup that I think there is wisdom in staying with the leaf spring set up.
If we look to the expert on the subject of SR20 swaps into Datsun roadsters, Michael Spreadbury always uses the leafspring setup, even with a Ford 8.8 inch or a RX7 rear end.
Not trying to talk you out of the four link set up, but I would carefully consider why the experts just keep it simple.

If you search (it's the little white block on the upper right), you'll find a few threads on the subject.
If I understand correctly, it's not considered a practical swap because of limited room, expense and questionable gain.
I'm not aware of anyone making a 4 link setup or kit for the roadsters. Probably wouldn't be very economical because of the very low demand.
That said, given enough money and time, almost anything can be made to work.
Good luck and please keep us informed of your progress if you decide to go down that path.

"Alvin" on this site uses a 4 link I believe. Might be worth asking him. I think he likes his car, and so does just about everybody selling one of these..lol

I think the current thinking on road cars is a 3 link with torque link.
Use the existing leaf spring mounts for the two rods and a torque link mounted to the "X"

Im wondering what the insurance policy terms are on this
most have a modifications clause ,that they can opt out of or void the policy , when does a stock 311 ,which is what the company is ,has to really insure, become something other than that
I knew a sexy 21 yr old girl ,who spent the rest of her life (15 yrs ) in a gimble wheel chair ,because a guy wanted to set up his on monster PU

and the whammy was the insurance co did not pay because of the mods to the truck 10" lift kit and flotation tires
