Questions for installing tops and boots

Post by Gevan57 »

I have a new soft top and a new boot cover to install the snaps on to. I got this hardware with each and I have no idea how these are put together for the pasties and twisters. Are these what I needed?

Looks like it. Posties are capped, twisties are open. I think there are 10 snaps and 2 twisties for the boot cover inside the car.
Nice car btw.

If you have your old top, remove one to see the assembly sequence. I did it once, long time ago...I think the sequence is outer piece with prongs thru the top from out side, ghen oval washer on inside, then slotted base on inside. Prongs into slots, bend prongs over. You have to cut holes in the top for each ring.

The round things are snap buttons. They go on the boot 3 on a side behind the doors on the inside. They also go on the top inner flaps the cover the top frames

If you have your old top, use it as a template to locate all these bits

for the snaps, good idea to purchase the appropriate tool - it normally comes with snaps you can buy at any hardware store.

It's tough to 'spread' the bit that goes through the retaining ring properly without it.

If vinyl, might be better to create 'holes' with a soldering iron rather than cutting. Not sure about Stayfast though.

The location of the twistie holes on the inside of the rear deck will require MUCH accurate measurement. They are a bugger to fasten even when properly aligned.

Reitus and Cletus “R+C Weekly” had a great video on youtube doing a top install. Not too much details as it wasnt really a how to video. Guy was smoking cigs while doing the install.
