Does your roadster have a Name?

Post by RBMann »

Do you have a name for your roadster?

Meet Kiku, which means Chrysanthemum in Japanese and is also the Imperial Standard of the Emperor of Japan. A Fairlady that doesn't mind getting dirty on a drive.

It was Boise since that's where I got it and it seemed to be as good a name as any. But after having it, I think the PO painted it green because it's a money pit, so I'm considering a name change ;)

The Blaster. At least that is what I often refer to it as. Not sure if that is in relation to it being a blast to drive, or in relation to the Jedi referring to a blaster as a "crude but effective weapon." Datsun Roadster: Clearly a crude but effective weapon!

My yellow 70 is Cynthia. Cus I like the name. Must be some subliminally created attachment there somewhere in the mess of thoughts and confusion some call a brain.

"Frankie"
Short for Frankenstein, because there are parts from so many different vehicles in/on it...
GM alternator and temperature sensors
Ford throttlebody and injectors
Honda fuel pump and regulator
Mazda (additional) fuse panel
Volvo calipers
Altima rotors
240SX 5spd (changed 5th gear)
'84 Nissan Diesel front housing for tranny
Used to have a portion of a Subaru air intake, removed for now....
240Z clutch
Many various aftermarket parts also....gauges, springs, shocks....
Custom EFI intake and header.....

But, that name is only on here...at home it's just "the Datsun"....

My car has had a hard existence, it could have been scrapped decades ago so, I don't cuss at it. The previous two owners I cuss at.
While it is up on jack stands I have taught my grand kids to call it "The Lump".
When it moves under its own power I will call it "Consuelo", the first owner (I think). She is the one who drove it to the beaches in SoCal and to Palomar U. in 1970. I hope she had a good time at the beach.

Mine is named Julie after Julie Andrews who was the original Eliza in the My FairLady on Broadway. She lost the movie role to Aubrey Hepburn (whose singing was overdubbed in the movies to boot) when Warner Studios didn't think Andrews had the star power to make the movie a success.

Mine is, "The DSU". Named by the bride it reflects the only letters remaining on the hood.

My kids refer to it as the Red Car, my wife probably has some less than kind names.

Rusty....as in the RustyRoadster because she was my Dad's daily driver from new until about 20 years later, including hundreds of trip to Tahoe to ski, three years in England where they salt the roads and more years in after all that when my brother drove her while in college in San Francisco..........so she is a rusty crusty Roadster in need of new sheet metal.
My junk pile:
71 Jeep Gladiator. Restored w/#s matching engine. My WeeBeasty
70 1600 legit 2nd owner. Stroked and bored
Several salvaged w access to a barn full of parts, part cars & whole cars
......What's in the barn is for sale. What do you need?

Datseen in honor of our buddy who couldn't pronounce Datsun. The name stuck. I ordered custom plates a while ago and they have been sitting at the DMV I've been hesitant about removing the original plates with the discontinued month sticker. They want me to turn them in when i pick up the new plates.
