Personal opinions on the difference: I have a 66 and I'm 6"1", driving with the top up, I can't see traffic lights, vision out the side requires ducking alot and a contortionist show to get in and out, but they look cool :) Prefer it to a high windshield with the top down, the low windshield is farther forward and feels more open. For some reason, it also seems like the low windshield cars have less wind noise/ buffeting on the highway. Opening vent windows are nice too. If you want Miata seats or similar, stick to high windshield, the tall seats look silly with the low windshield, to me.

Things learned in the first 5 or 6 roadsters...Besides the usual stuff, like rust and general condition, go for a car that's being driven somewhat regularly.
Downside of cars that have sat a while, stuff goes bad and what you saved on a non-running car gets eaten up fixing it. Plus your time.
Avoid flips, unless you can find some history on the car.
Be sure you have a good gas tank, no replacements exist and its a pain getting them clean and crap keeps clogging things
Brakes and clutch hydraulics tend to seize up, not cheap.
If it's a 5 speed, be sure to drive it, or take into account it may be no good, they usually go for about 1K. 4 speeds tend to be a dime a dozen, until you need one.
Swaps all come down to how well it was done and if corners were cut.
I think California also back charges you for not registering the car every year, don't they?

Moving the seat back helps with comfort, but makes seeing traffic lights worse.
IMHO, if your height - inseam is > 42" your are going to have trouble seeing Traffic Lights even with the visors removed.

Back decades ago folks dressed up cars by installing a metal sunscreen on the outside of the windshield. Much like the brim of a baseball cap. When you pulled up to a traffic signal you couldn't look up to the light. The clear looking thing sat on the dash and you looked at it to see the light in a prism. Dave, help. Find a picture.

It mounts to the dash of the car and lets you see the reflection of the traffic light. These were a fairly common accessory on cars back in the fifties and sixties when visors over the outside of the windshield made it tough to see the lights.

Yeah, but what's it called? Googling soap dish mounted to dash has not yielded positive results.

I have always heard of them referred to as Traffic Light Veiwers.

If you google Traffic Light viewer you'll see quite a few examples.

I have heard them called traffic light reflectors or prisms. You can go cheap or more spendy:

bossbob wrote:Hello everyone, I'm a new guy trying to re-live some good times. My first car was a 68 Roadster 1600 given to me by my grrandfather back in the 70's. Drove it through high school until it the trans went out. Been working on mustangs ever since.............

So, I was at a car show last month and saw the same car, same color, etc. and thought that would be a fun car to do and so the search began.
Seems like it's been a while since I've seen you post. Did you find a car?

I wish,

I've had several leads, looked at what seems like a lot of cars, maybe 4 in person, Bikermike looked at one in San Jose last weekend and saved me a 16 hour round trip. Seen a lot on line that I have inquired about that turn out to be buckets..................

I think I've exhausted my surrounding area for now, including neighboring states that I am willing to travel to.

One last hope is a local guy, has 2 roadsters, he want's me to buy a package deal. A 68 1600 and a 69 2000, the 69 has frame issues, the 68 is a parts car. Both are rough, his plan was to use the 68 body on the 69. Don't know if I have the room here to pull off a 2 car body off project. So, I might be interested in the 69 and just have the frame repaired depending on how bad it it is. I'm hoping to check it out this weekend.

Thanks for asking. Oh yeah, almost forgot, almost won the bid on a 70 2000 on ebay. I was outbid and wasn't going any higher, ebay kind of scares me if I can't get a look at the car before I buy. I once bought a convertible mustang on ebay, seller swore up and down it was rust free. Guess what?????
