Greg, where did you have your work done?
Gregs672000 wrote:So today I had an AP Big Max turbo muffler installed to replace the flow master 40... ah, there's the sound I was looking for! Much deeper, no "rap" sound, just a bit quieter than my Dellortos, deep rumble. Sounds more like a sports car than an riced out Honda with a sewer pipe for an exhaust. This muffler is supposed to be like the Magnaflow, but I think it is designed just like the dynomax turbo I had on there before. It is just a tad quieter, very happy.

I have (what I believe to be) the original two mufflers. They're branded Nioh<something-I-can't-read>...is that correct? Forward of that front canister, I need to replace the section of pipe which is rusted / crimped / gapping at the flange (current non-asphyxiation solution: never quite come to a full stop). I'll add a short flex pipe at the manifold collector as well. Getting this done at a shop btw.

I'm thinking of keeping the original canisters since I like how "seasoned" in sound they are :D , assuming that entire muffler section is rust-free. Any opinions on that vs going to a new front muffler + rear resonator + requisite-megaphone-tip? I want the typical nice-tone-but-not-so-loud-dogs-bark-at-it sound to it.

So the shop couldn't get their replacement muffler here until next Thursday, so I opted to go ahead and replace it with an 18" Dynomax Super turbo like I had before. Nice sound, actually a bit quieter than what I had this time, very happy.

Couldn't decide weather I've grown up yet or not, (probably not) so when I did my exhaust I had the muffler shop make me a "his and hers" set up. Don't know if this is my favorite muffler or not, as the roadster has yet to be started! By the way the owner of the shop is the guy I bought my roadster from in 1972. His son does all the work now, as he is in his late 70's, but he hangs around the shop and helps out. He was surprised to see it! Is

I'll be looking for the Audio clips when she's running. Will be really interesting to see how differently the two will sound.

Me too, but won't be changing right away. The plan is to run it first without the resonator and let my wife get used to that sound, and then when she says it's to loud to take a long trip in I'll swap it out with the resonator. Hopefully it'll mellow it out just enough to make her think it's better :D.

I also have built them without cans for people who request them, "The un-resonator". Sounds like an IMSA car at WOT, LOL.

Maybe the Suzuki TM 400 I was riding at the time affected my perception, but I was running nothing but an Ansa tip for years and did not find it objectionable. Might explain why the most spoken phrase in my house now is "WHAT DID YOU SAY," :D
