Hmm, so some shops have a try before you buy program? That is better than just guessing.

Re: Favorite muffler
Looking forward to your reviews on the magniflow muffler. I am almost at the stage where I have to decide which one I am going with.

Greg
I have no personal experience with the roadster yet but lots with 4 cylinder cars and I can tell you I have yet to hear one that actually sounded good with a Flowmaster
I'm very partial to Dynomax Ultra Flow (oval not round) with a resonator inline but not sure if they make them small enough for the roadster
If you don't want to use a resonator I have found the Magnaflows to be quieter but raspier
My 0.02$

Thanks all. I did review the past posts... always good info!
So, not so much try it before you buy it kinda deal... I'm sure to be having to pay some more for sure!

Re: Favorite muffler
So today I had an AP Big Max turbo muffler installed to replace the flow master 40... ah, there's the sound I was looking for! Much deeper, no "rap" sound, just a bit quieter than my Dellortos, deep rumble. Sounds more like a sports car than an riced out Honda with a sewer pipe for an exhaust. This muffler is supposed to be like the Magnaflow, but I think it is designed just like the dynomax turbo I had on there before. It is just a tad quieter, very happy.

Re: Favorite muffler
Drove it some more yesterday... really like it. It is just a tad quieter than my old Dynomax, possibly because the pipes were fully welded where as things were clamped on before. I get less decell popping than I used to. The tone is also deeper and richer. For the record, I'm running Dean's thermo coated header (older version), 2.25" pipe through the frame (holes opened up), no flex pipe, into the muffler and 2.25" pipe to a Monza tip (which apparently is NOT an Ansa and does not have a resonator so it is probably not changing sound much if at all).
I've said before that she is docile at lower RPMs/Speeds, but compared to my Celica she is high strung and a bit jumpy/eager to go... kinda hard to keep her from being jumpy in second gear and 2500 rpms. LOVE the wideband A/F meter... overall jetting is really dialed in and showing 14.5-14.7 under most circumstances... can't live without the wideband! See ya all as Shasta!

Re: Favorite muffler
Glad you're liking it
one thing to keep in mind is that it should get a little louder when broken in ,
best way to do so is a long drive (90min+) with sustained 50mph plus driving

Re: Favorite muffler
I just finished up a full exhaust system replacement using JT68's 2" SS system. it was a very complete system with every last nut and bolt I needed. I chose to do a clamp-on system, not welded.
It is a well crafted quality system which fits well, is very securely mounted, does not appear to leak and sounds great to me.
it has a nice low note. is very smooth as you go up the RPM curve and has no popping, rasping or sputtering like some systems.
at idle it seems pretty normal but a lower note. when you get on it it is a joy to drive and go through the gears yet it is not obnoxiously loud or anything. so far it seems just right. I tested with the top up but windows down. tomorrow I may get to try a top down run.
Don't laugh but I think it sounds kind of like a Ferrari with 4 cylinders if you could "visualize" that with your ears! ok you can laugh now!
it is really quite nice. I am very pleased with it.
I have a pretty extensive write up with more pictures for it here:

Thats the problem with having been a computer systems engineer for 33 years, you over analize everything and end up explaining things in too much detail!notoptoy wrote:"Pretty extensive write up" is an understatement! Well done thanks.
I could have just said it.s great and I love it!
