Are you going with oem weatherstrip? Reason I ask is there are aftermarket pinch welt stripping that easily attaches to all edges with rubber that faces outward, or sideways. Readily available thru MCMasters or other industrial outlets. Really great stuff and no GLUE just cut to size.

I am in the same boat. Need weather stripping.
Can you list some part numbers? I went to the site but I could not find "pinch welt". Not even sure what it is or looks like. If you ordered from them before can you list the numbers you ordered?

I had access to this stuff where I worked. They used to order all their material from either McMasters or Grangers. You might even scout out the boneyards for the stuff. I think many later model cars came with them. Even saw the stuff at Pep Boys years some years ago. Sorry I don't have a part no. If and when you find it please list it for future ref.

There is stuff here that gives you an idea what they look like.

Go with 3M spray adhesive, it is well worth any added cost.
Super77 works superb, spray both surfaces and let tack up, then jam them on.
Make sure surfaces are clean first, wire brush then iso alcohol should be fine.

I bought the door weather strip from Mike at Datsunsocal. Each strip is longer than it need be.

I centered the weather strip length-wise in the door opening such that there is excess length on both ends (at dashboard and at top of rear door. I started putting it in place at the lower center of the door. I used hand pressure and occasionally a soft blow with a rubber mallet. Be sure the car's metal ridge is in the weather strip grove before you attempt to secure the weather strip with pressure/force.

I secured the entire lower edge and the radius going up at both ends. Then did each end (upward part) sequentially. Cut off excess at both ends.

The rear pillar has a little hole in the metal ridge. OEM placed a metal stay thru the hole and the weather strip to keep it from getting pulled away from the door frame.

It goes on easy. The ridge has to be clean and free of the old adhesive.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for bringing this up.

a couple more questions:

At the top of the door pillar, does it stop at the door pillar cap? or does the cap cover it?

The aluminum interior trim, bend it (open it up?) to fit over the top?

Oh, one more... carpet / vinyl first???

I have pics but mine was so wasted that even the pics don't make sense.

Thanks

My guess is the plasitc cap would break if you spread it open. So up to would be my guess.
vinyl first.

In the aftermarket weather strip and OEM the platic pillar cap does not go over the weatherstrip. Some weather strip kits have a round rubber plug to seal off the open hole in the seal. The last kit I installed didn't have them.

Vinyl first, then carpet or aluminum, it doesn't matter...but make sure the vinyl trim on the interior around the door opening is in before weather strip. Then weatherstrip, then aluminum

Aluminum trim goes over the weather strip - the part of the strip that snaps over the metal lip. I will upload some pics

To give it a finished look, you can put a dab of weatherstrip adhesive in the end and pinch it shut.

Got my drivers side window channels done...any many other things not related to weather stripping.
I saw I have the dreaded "late model" broken bracket for the rear internal door channel. I didn't do anything about it yet.

I didn't think my yellow propane tank will get hot enough for a weld job. Maybe if I had something other than solder. Not sure.
