Assembled my center console today after picking up the latch/lamp trim and the ashtray slider from the chrome shop. I was more than a little disappointed as I asked for it to be satin finished but it came out a bright polished finish. I am still looking for a clear map light lens so I might as well include good condition console trim too.

You may have wanted Satin, but that still looks great!

Thanks for the comments guys. If I ever do find the perfect satin finish pieces I'll know what direction to pass these onto.

Been 6+ months since I've worked on my Datsun, so I finally took a closer peek at my 67.5 2000 project.

The car is currently red with splotches of black underneath. In the below photo taken 1+ year ago, you can see the black paint sneaking through the red, on the lip below the grill. The interior of the car is red.

This weekend, I took a razor blade and carefully peeled back some of the pearl red (early 80's) paint to find a shiny coat of original code #505 Thunder Black paint. Peeled back a bit of the 'Blacked out' grill to find a very good chrome underneath.

My goal: To strip the 80's paint off the car, and return the vehicle to its original finish.

This is a recent trend in the VW community (Kombi buses) to unearth the original pale green/blue colors from the late 50's and 60's.

I'm going to try several different paint removers, and hopefully will again have an original 1967.5 #505 Thunder Black roadster.

Good luck w/ that Dan - I think it's a worthy project. The guy who polished my paint was a big fan of the original paint and how well it can be restored.

Cheers

I get to write something today! Finally got started on the engine bay, clutch change, interior improvement project. Haven't wrenched on the Datsun at this level in a while. Pulled the motor and everything went smooth, including no damage from taking the hood and engine off/out by myself... Always worried i'll scratch the paint or bang the motor into something... But she cooperated fully. I did discover that I have some kind of weird pressure plate on it instead of what I thought might be a 1600 plate, as this clutch has slipped some since new (and the flywheel showed it). Not sure what this supposed to fit, but it doesn't look like what I've seen for our cars. I bought it so long ago I don't remember if I thought it was weird or not. Also discovered that my rear main IS NOT leaking like I thought, yea! Must be coming from the tach cable and/or the oil hose fitting (hose is new). Engines on the stand and the clean up begins today!

The tach seal is the same one used inside the speedo gear and both available from local Nissan dealer.

I did a test fit of the custom radio console in my 68 SR20 swap with a flat dash. I powered up the touch screens and they work!

Started swapping out old screws for new stainless, when it warms up I'll clean the residual rust marks.

I reckon that is the way to go!
Not OEM but they look great and don't have a corrosion issue like a chrome screw does :)

I spent the last two days cleaning and sorting parts. I have a bunch of stuff I'll want to get rid of at some point.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.
