Installed my freshly rebuilt rear wheel brake cylinders. I was going to rebuild them myself, but was referred to Power Brake Exchange in San Jose. They blasted, honed, and replaced seals for cheaper than I could do myself. Look brand new and no leaks. If you want or need a resleeve they would outsource to Karps in SoCal. Convenient nearby fix for those with leaky cylinders in the Bay Area. $35 per cylinder was a no brainer.

Replaced my delco remy 80 amp single wire alternator today with a 63 amp 3 wire new Ultima brand from O'Rielly's. The old one was getting so hot you could not touch it, the battery occasionally went dead, the car was very hard to start, all of the symptoms of a failing unit, but it was still putting out 13.5-15 volts. Now the car starts immediately, puts out 14 volts or more and alternator is warm to the touch. Yippee ky yay baby!!

Today I removed the rear axle housing.
Weeks ago I noticed a leak near the rear right wheel.
First I thought it was the axle seal that was bad.
Then I removed the wheel to have a look and saw a not so little hole in the axle housing
So I found a spare one on eBay. US to Europe ...3 weeks
Today I took the axle housing out and the plan is to reassemble the other one tomorrow.
I have new bearings to put on the axle so I might do this in the same time.

You sure are jumping in, eh Pierre! Regarding those rear wheel bearings, as mentioned the collars and their proper installation is very important for safety reasons. Be sure to discuss this with knowledgeable folks, and that's not me on this one! I had mine done at a shop many years ago and I don't KNOW what's correct... but folks here likely do!

So how's the engine running now that you fixed the manifold gasket? Did it work?

Hey Greg,

I will do it with my brother, he is a mechanical engineer.
He used to have a shop where he repaired tractors and all kind of agricultural machines .
About the manifold, everything seems to holding up so far.
There is no more leak an no more white smoke.
Hopefully there will be no missing coolant .

Disassembled and painted the metal parts, and installed Dean's "skins" over the base and the lid. Took patience, lots of clamps, trimming and such to get an acceptable fit to the carcass I had to work with. The shift plate sits up higher than normal with the skin over the base; so much so that the tabs on the rear of the shift plate won't engage with the metal slots on the base. So I had to improvise and place two small screws to hold it in place. Sourced a very low profile USB plug for the cig lighter which sits flush with the top surface. Should be getting Dean's vinyl shift boot shortly to really finish it off.

And of course, in the warm San Jose evening last night, went out for a post-sunset drive!

Boot delivered and installed. It really finishes things off for the console.
