Making myself a new muffler from a Mazda resonator. Total cost, $80. $40 for the pipe and $40 for the resonator. That's an old one in the photo, waiting for the new one. Resonator has 2" inlet/outlet so the 1-3/4" slips right in. Fits perfect on the car.

Yay ,my new stainless lines from Classic tube will be here next Friday. Tried to get white wall tires yesterday but no luck. I want 175/14 and there aren't many options for radials.

I like the fact you have the shop right side up now. Must be so much easier to work on things. After you cleaned up can you find anything? That is the problem I usually have with cleaning or reorganizing.

I adjusted my megajolt timing map, pulling back some timing in areas when I heard ping and my air/fuel ratios were rich enough that it wasn't a lean condition. Power improved, and the engine just felt better. I also feel more confident moving off from a stop and don't have to be easy on it to avoid ping by keeping advance pretty light at low rpms under load. I purchased a set of accelerator pump jets one step bigger as it goes lean on accelleration at times (Dellorto carbs).

Tried out a new oil pressure sending unit for a 240z as I heard they were compatible... NOT! Read super high pressure. Too bad, as these are a fraction of the cost for the U20.

Tried out some ethanol free premium, hearing that the cars run better on it, etc... NOT! At least in my case. Per the wideband it ran 2 points richer (12s instead of 14s at cruise) and pinged on it under acceleration even though it was richer. Could be bad gas, but clearly my carb jetting and timing map are set up for ethanol spiked fuel. If I were to have access and felt the car would run a lot better on it then I might reset the carbs and timing map, but at $4.00 a gallon and hard to find it's not worth it. I've never had any fuel related deterioration problems.

I also learned that my air/fuel ratios are influenced by just a few degrees of timing change, demonstrating that everything is a system!

I think I'm close to a dyno run if I hear no ping and the new pumps keep me safe.

I finally got the heater put together. Made a new resistor for it, a new heater core and powder coated.

Thanks, unfortunately it won't be going in the car very soon. Spent a little while yesterday cleaning up the window regulators. Painted another cable today for the negative cables.

well, my first ride didn't go well. As soon as I accelerated up past 1900 it went flat. The alternator was still putting out over twenty volts, and the charge circuit fuse blew. So I took it to my friend at the auto electric shop, and a few days later he called and told me that it was ready. Yesterday I installed it, tested it and it was going to right around 13.5 volts. I made an appointment to get it inspected tomorrow, but just as I was about to take it down off the jack stands this afternoon I thought that I should check lights. It is a good thing that I did because both left directionals, one brake light and the reverse light were out. I found that the reverse bulb was bad but the bulbs in the directional and brake light were good, so I took time out to mow the lawn and get dinner. After dinner I went back at it and after some testing I was back to the bulbs. It turned out that they were all blown, apparently from the high voltage, but the filaments were almost completely still intact, so I had missed the first time, I had two 1157s and one 1156 on hand, and after a little scrounging around I found a spare truck light assembly and robbed the bulb from that. So inspection is still on for 9:00 AM tomorrow.
