Yeah, hard to beat the sound of side draft carbs!

I've disliked the whirring noise of the plastic fan on my '68 2000 since I got the car running last year.
I removed the offending fan and added a 14" electric fan with a push in thermostat.
At this point, it's wired as the instructions say but I plan to remove the driver side mounted stock alternator and voltage regulator in favor of an internally regulated alternator of higher power.
At that time, I'll also wire the headlights to a couple relays for direct battery power so much wiring in the engine compartment will change.
I tested the fan setup last night, dropped the thermocouple probe into a cup of boiling water and the fan came on. I removed the probe from the hot water and a minute or so later, the fan quit as the thermocouple dropped below the trigger point of about 180 degrees.
This particular fan mounts directly to the radiator core and has a sort of flange all around that forms it's own sort of shroud so all the air the fan draws has to come thru the radiator core.
Seems to move a lot more air than that plastic fan did and since it will come on with demand, should be more efficient. Might even gain 1/4 hp :-).
We'll see....

Did you mount the fan as a puller or pusher? Any pics?

I had a very similar setup on my previous E30 racecar. Clutchfan was eliminated not for the 1/4 bhp but more because of the lack of space with the motor swap. I have considered doing the same with this car, but I have so many more things to do before I try and squeeze out that last 1/4bhp from the motor haha

It's a puller. I have a hell of a time posting pics here.
Let me see if I can get time to figure it out this evening.

I use a Datsun 310 electric (found by looking through a bunch of fans in a wrecking yard) with the same thermostat that goes into the fins of the rad... works awesome and has for what, 25 years? Not a perfect fit but has enough shroud and mounting arms to bolt to the rad on one side and to extend an arm a little distance to reach the other side of the rad. I too hated the sound of the stock fan, even though it was the 4 blade. And in traffic the electric is just the way to go. It is also so much easier to reach the crank bolt so you can turn the engine by hand if you need to. Like every mod, it usually requires some fiddling here and there, but I think electric fans are a very good upgrade.

Completed rewrite of rear lights and changed to led. The F.F. FLASHE will require a can swap to led compliant. Luckily I have an extra.

1157 red

1156 red
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0738 ... UTF8&psc=1

you will notice the passenger is a richer red, the driver is the original incandescent white bulb. the uppers increase brightness with the turn function
I did need to replace the turn signal relay can with a LED compliant one. i also have clear/yellow switchbacks in the front.

they will not four-way flash now. i have to change the FF flasher can.

(Meant to post this 2 days ago...)

Picked the body up from the dipper, and brought it home. Now all the regret, second-guessing, and/or fun begins...
