Made it to Gaviota State Park and set up camp at the beach on Thursday Night/Friday Morning. Friday morning, Trouble shot my Alternator...broken voltage regulator wire going into the alternator....Fixed with a small piece of duct tape. Go have breakfast at my usual spot in Buellton, ELLENS DANISH PANCAKE House before making my way to O'Reilly Auto Parts to buy tolls and supplies for a better fix of my Alternator. Test drive up to Santa Maria for IN-N-OUT for lunch, then Back to Buellton. After a burger at the Friday Night meeting in Mendenhall's Museum, it was back to the camp site. My Tent was still there even thou the wind was howling...25 mph with higher gusts. After Breakfast in Buellton, off to the show. Smelling a little antifreeze on the trip over to the show, park to find the intake manifold is leaking...looks like the welch plug in the bottom of the manifold. After the show it off to O'Reilly for more supplies. Stain is getting bigger on the side of the block, so I get some Aluminum Seal and fill some water bottles. Filling the radiator, I check the overflow and its got a short cap which is incorrect. Got the cap situation straighten out. Short test drive and then off to the Raffle-dinner. I was one of the big winners, maybe my luck is changing. Among other things, I won at certificate for set of Z-therapy carbs rebuilding, and Set of VTO Wheels of my choice. Back to the Camp site, still windy. Wanted to start early toward home, so added the other half of the Aluminum Seal and topped of with water. Only need 1 qt. of water...good sign. Allowed the engine idle as I packed up my camp site and tried to get it back into the trunk...LOL. Set off about 6:30 for the drive home....usually it take 3.5-4 hours. Drove with a eye on the gauges to the Ojai cutoff, about 45 miles and stopped to check. System was now holding pressure, able to add 1 qt. of water and reseal for another short section. Drove another hour to my usual Shell Gas Station in Thousand Oaks. Fill with gas for the final section. Home for lunch, skipped breakfast :-(
Car got louder as the trip went on, hole in the muffle has gone from a pin hole to a quarter size hole and the alternator started over-charging, I ran the lights to help control the amount.
Dang Phil,
We should have had you follow us out of Solvang early Sunday morning.
We could have at least kept with you to the O.C. and you could have refreshed in any of our garages. I saw you when you were talking about the leak from the manifold freeze plugs but I did not know who you were.
Congrats on the wheels! If you need to let them go, see me ;)

Just a short drive yesterday to be the welcome home committee for Ted Heaton. Hard to have a good party when the guess of honor doesn’t show up. Sat on his porch, had a snack and then drove home the back way through Holmes Point.

I've driven my roadster twice for shakedown runs since 1982, once about 5 years ago when I started my resto and once about a month ago. Each 4 mile drive around my neighborhood was a white knuckle affair with wonky brakes, clutch, steering, missing body parts ( the cars, not mine) ect. Well, today I got to take it for a fun confidence inspiring drive :D I put about 15 miles on it and my wife put about 5 on it, as it's only fitting, since this is the car she learned to drive a stick with while we were still dating! It stills needs a few things, most notably having its windshield installed, oh, and a tag and insurance would let me stray a little further from home  But, WOW what fun we had with everything working good! I think the picture says it all :smt003

DROVE with fellow DROPS roadster owners John V and RB Mann to see Pebbles. Tuesday May 8 2018.
Pebbles is recovering from "old broken down roadster guy" surgery. (just a hernia) but he needed cheering up
so we visited and made him laugh which caused him pain and amusement for us!
Even got him into his roadster for therapy and drove a bit for a picture.
His conversion roadster is STILL not done and the wiring from Wiring Specialties is still in the box (3 years and counting!)
The NICE Falcon is a family car from new.
Even his mother showed up to check on him.! A good mom, she gave him a little sympathy and a rash of crap about all the "junk"
in his shop   . I liked her!
Nice sunny warm day. About 160 miles for me and got back just before the predicted afternoon thunderstorm dumped a lot of rain.
