Windshield frame soft trim

Post by johnscf »

What have others done to replace the soft trim that runs up the sides and across the top of the inside of the windshield frame? I did the best I could to save mine when I stripped it off for a repaint of the car but it didn't go well. Has anyone had this stuff re-fabricated. I'm thinking about cutting some foam to fit and then trying to cover with thin vinyl. Thoughts or suggestions?

I think Dean's is a hard plastic version and is only for the 1970. Ultimately I will probably buy it but wanted to see if anybody else had other suggestions or ways they have replaced the original.

Dean used to have a kit fir the 68/69s. I bought one set years ago. When I tried to order another one last year, he said the mold was used up and he wasn't planning to have another made. Too bad, it was a nice set.

+1

I remember it took some patience and a little skill to fit it on the car; I’m guessing people complained about that. Too bad, it was a nice kit.

I just used wide flat black weatherstripping from Home Depot and I think it would be easy to wrap in vinyl when I get around to it.

did you have an old original to use as a pattern to get the fit right or just line it up on the frame of the windshield?

I don’t know what happened to the original, probably disintegrated. Just line it up. The foam is easy to cut so that you can shape it if you want to. The vertical is easy and straight, haven’t completed the horizontal, but it does not look too difficult.
