I often think about that when I'm working on my car, or any car (step son's for example, or rebuilding the front end of the BMW after the step daughter smacked someone). I also try to know what I'm good at and what is better left to an expert or specialist who can do it a million times better and faster than I. In those cases, I work extra doing what I do well so I can pay someone to do what they do well...
But there is nothing like the satisfaction that comes from doing things yourself (successfully of course!). Well done Kendall.

Successfully... there's the key word here. I'm the same Greg. I know my limitations. Body work is absolutely off limits. I'm pushing the envelope doing electrical. That's why I'm glad we all have Curtis. Not sure if everyone knows this or not but Curtis is kinda the s**t when it comes to knowledge of the 311's electrical systems. Lucky to have him.

Oh and here's a fun one... I do believe the clock has to come back out. More later.

Well thank you. Just trying to help. But Nissanman and more than a couple other people on here are good at this too. I don't hesitate to steal knowledge from whomever I can. I wish I had Jon Frampton's knowledge of the gauges inner mysteries.

Yep, clock's back out. Now stay with me here folks. Try to pinpoint the exact spot where I'm an idiot. Ready?
Got home today and spliced in the LED power supply for the green with white stripe wire on the headlight switch. (Thanks Curtis)
Positive terminal back on the battery.
Light switch on.
Nothing.
Hmmmmm.....
Maybe all the gauge LED's need to be plugged in to function?
Plugged in the daisy chain for all LED's including the clock.
Light switch back on...
Smoke Show! Panic!!! Unplug EVERYTHING!
I was horrified, heartbroken. Did I just fry all of Jon's hard work on these gauges? Does this mean I'm dead in the water and back to California the gauges go???
Into the house for a quick email to Jon.
Back to the garage. Hmm.... Let's see. My splice on the light switch is solid. No backwards wires in the LED daisy chain. Wait! It's that damn clock!!! I kinda tugged on the LED leads on that. UGH, remove clock. No.. wires are still solid. Hmmm... you don't suppose... (wait for it)
My grounding set up. (this is gonna solve a couple of things, keep waiting.)
My ground set up is mounted to the chassis at THE GAUGE REGULATOR location. I just screwed it in right along with the regulator. It's grounded right? What if the guts on that thing really are fried and it's either open or closed or something or something? (you see the depth of my electrical knowledge.)

Removed regulator from chassis and reinstalled just my grounding set up. Fingers crossed as I glanced at the fire extinguisher. Positive cable back on battery. Headlights on.

BAM!!! All 4 gauges glowing green!!!!
If you're reading this Jon, disregard my last email.

Pretty sure this confirms the gauge regulator is fried.
Two things I'm good at. Typing and late model clock removal.

Wednesday.
Gauge regulator arrived today. Installed and works good. I'm guessing that the temp gauge will work, I'll need to start the car to see about that.
Currently I have clock, fuel and volts.
GPS antenna routed through the defrost duct. Two sided 3M tape will hold it in place on the dash while I experiment.
Speedo is next.
Tach is waiting for the arrival of a Nissan ECU pin kit from Wiring Specialties.

Getting closer.

Update.
Working on the speedo.
Speedo has lights. Speedo is talking to the GPS antenna. High beams are not working. (whatev)
Going to tuck her up in her place tomorrow and tidy up the wires.
Tach is next.
Believe it or not... what you're seeing in this pic makes sense.

Update:
Everything is working, minus the high beams but those never worked anyway so... Zip tie time!
I'll post some pics and final thoughts soon.

After you get it going if you still have no high beams we'll have to figure it out.

Well so much for rapping it up.
Gauges are in. I now have speedo, tach, fuel, volts and temp. Blinkers are working. LED's look wicked cool.
But now I have no oil pressure. UGH!!! I had oil pressure on the old gauge.
I checked the line, no kinks (I've been a little rough under there).
Yes there's oil in the car.
Yes, she runs just fine.
No, there's no oil coming from the line/gauge.
When I installed it, I simply screwed on the old line to the new fitting.
Suggestions?

Do you have to bleed the line and get the air out? Just thinking out loud here.
"When all else fails, force prevails!" Ummm, we're gonna need a bigger hammer here.

Maybe just spray a bunch of oil back there. It seems the car has had an issue or two through her life. Maybe she likes it like that.
Going to take her out for a run on the freeway today.

I-5 southbound.
90 MPH on the GPS speedo.
Tach's spinning at 4300 RPM with room to spare.
Bad Company ripping in the speakers.
Lines on the road just looked like dots.

Man, she is comfortable in her own skin.
