Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
I've been working on a design using the Cooper-Bussmann fuse box that Michael Spreadbury recommended in the glove box of the early cars. He has used them to replace the 69-70, 510 plug in box. So I made did a design that is cut from one sheet and folds up to make a new glove box.
For people that want a more modern fuse box it puts it in the glove box like the later cars so this could be an option. I need to tweek my design a bit so it fits better. I didn't pay attention to the fact that the glove box is tapered a bit from left to right.
I should add that this aimed at people getting a new dash harness from me.
See what you think.

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
As Curtis mentioned, we have been converting the OEM Datsun fuse boxes on Datsun 510s using these boxes for quite some time and they have worked out brilliantly-- it is awesome to see that Curtis is going to offer this setup for roadster owners.
What I love about these boxes is you are using a easy to find OEM ATC fuse and that you can make a lot of battery and key-on individual circuits to suit your car's electrical needs.
Here are a couple more detail shots of what they look like:
Kudos to you Curtis for offering such a great product to our community!

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
Thanks Michael. The box I have is a 16 fuse box with 3 busses. That gives you a battery, ignition, and accessory circuit.
When I redid my car's wiring I used a Ron Francis ignition switch that looks a lot like the roadster switch but also has the accessory position. This box will also fit in the existing 68-70 roadster glove box from what I can tell so far. An easy, hidden upgrade with more circuits and protection.
I'm building a 68 harness that will use this box. It will be plug in like the 69-70 box.

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
I finally took some time and tweaked the box design to account for the angled top. Box is made from one piece and folded up.

Thanks. Now to get some proper material and make a real one. I plan to use this fuse box in my restored car.spl310 wrote:Looks great!

Hey Curtis is not only great with electrical wires and diagrams, but now an origami wiz too.
I might move the four way flasher switch I installed yesterday for this.
Seems I've had little to no issues with the original fuse box though.
Anyone see that lightning strike just went by my ears ...

My wife who is of Japanese descent thought this was quite funny and appropriate. By way of making fun of the term oriental she calls herself an ornamental.msampsel wrote:Hey Curtis is not only great with electrical wires and diagrams, but now an origami wiz too.

AutoCad is very useful for creating origami patterns.

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
Found a source for the fuse box I'm using. They have been impossible to find. Here's a comparison shot with the later boxes. About the same as a 69-70 box.

Curtis:
I carry a reproduction glove box liner that would work well with your fuse box. Send me your address and I will donate an assembled 65-67.5 glove box liner for you to use. these retail for $70 is anyone would like one.

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
Thanks for the offer Ross. It would need to have the flat area like the one I designed for the fuse box. My original box has the slanted/angled side so the fuse box doesn't fit. The 68 and newer box seems to be a bit taller.sports imports wrote:Curtis:

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
Since you are in the design stages, just throwing this out there, food for thought.
My 81 Dodge truck had a fuse box up under the dash where you could barley see it, but it clipped in place and was designed to swing down a few inches and flip over to get to the fuses then clip back up. Might be a cool way to do yours and save glove box space and mods.

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
There's not much place for it to swing up to me and I would worry about things coming loose with the movement. I'd have to see an example and a search didn't yield any useful photos as yet.dbrick wrote:Since you are in the design stages, just throwing this out there, food for thought.

Re: Low Window Fuse Box in Glove Box
Was just a random thought, in reality with the ATO fuses, there is no exposed metal connections on the front, so not really a hazard.

Not a bad idea, I'm just wondering where you could swing it to? No room by the glove box.dbrick wrote:Was just a random thought, in reality with the ATO fuses, there is no exposed metal connections on the front, so not really a hazard.
I see my reworked glove box is not really any smaller then the late glove box.
