Attaching hardtop to 1966 1600

Post by jnnt29 »

This forum is great for all of the information relating to the Roadster and can be overwhelming at times. I have found so many fixes since joining two weeks ago.

One area I haven’t found much information on revolves around the hardtop installation. I am looking for detail instructions on installing the hardtop with any pictures or graphics. I have the hardtop but I’m not sure if any weather seal that should go around the bottom of the top that sits on the car on the back. I am not sure if I have all the parts and I am looking for the parts that would be needed to attach to the tensioners on each side. My 1600 didn’t come with the tensioner wheels on the bottom so I bought two tensioners on ebay and I am looking for any instructions that process as well.

Thanks, JT

It all depends on what hardtop you have. Can you tell which one you've got?

The one I have has the round port hole windows on the side. There are no visible markings that I can see on it. Here is a picture of it sitting on the car.

I've seen two mounting methods for them. In the front will either use the stock soft top latch, or a bolt. In the back there was an aluminum tab that connects to the soft top frame mount.

That's how mine attaches. I didn't know if there was any additional weather stripping on the back to protect the paint. I have replacement back frame mount tensioners and have to replace them and should be good to go.

If it rests on the paint, consider the clear plastic stick on paint protection

Is the weather striping on the bottom of the back below the window? Can you post a picture if you have one. Thanks

Guys, I found some great ideas out there that will definitely work. One weather striping that look very promising is from McMaster Carr. I found a thread that had the part number and everything. Thanks for the direction!

I just acquired a hard top more my 67. The front attachments are obvious but I have no idea how the rear is held down. Anyone have any pictures for that>. Need to figure it out in the next day or so to prepare the car for cross country transport.
