pic showing where the tach cable goes into the distributer

Post by Natenate4s »

Hello everyone. Does anyone have a pic that shows where the tachometer cable goes into the distributor? I've had tachometer issues for a while. I don't want to just start taking things apart to find out. :D

I figured it out. This looks broken to me. It's the inner cable if the tach cable. The end that looks like its missing came from the distributor side. Does anyone have one you can sell? 67.5/1600

As I recall the square part goes to the tach, the other has a special fitting that slides into the dizzy output gear. Yours looks different from mine.

Check with some of the vendors - they have cables. If you replace it, make sure you get the proper seals - I think there are 2 - or oil can move up the cable housing and possibly enter the tachometer. :x

Can any body tell the length of the tach cable (67.5/1600)?
What kine for proper seals -or another solution- to stop oil from interning the cable housing?
Appreciate any help.

A cable from one of the vendors (or Nissan if available in Qatar) should have the correct seals with it. Otherwise, back when I was on a tighter budget many years ago, I cut my own seal out of an old bicycle inner tube. Round and just large enough to seal around the inside of the cable nut that attaches to the distributor side and the with a small hole in the center for the cable to go through. Worked like a charm for many years.

Dean sells a seal kit for the distributor side connection. Changed mine out last year, was easy and worked great to stop the oil leak there.

The topic link above, has the part number reference for the o ring and seal parts. My local Nissan dealer was able to order the parts ( 1 day, couple of dollars for both).
It's worth a call to the local Nissan parts desk....good luck.....

Greg672000 (lucky you)

Did you change your seal with the distributor on and the engine in the car? Getting ready to do mine soon and gathering some moral support :smt003

Oh ya, the engine in the car. I don't have a distributor anymore (mega-jolt crank fired now) but I doubt it will make any difference dizzy installed or not. The seal is in the pedestal.

Thanks and I just did mine and took off the dizzy and removed the pedestal too.
11 mm socket was a nice seal install tool.

I do not think it leaks off to remove the oil pan next to replace the gasket.
This will be fun ... with the engine in the car.

Oil pan gasket is not too bad to do with the engine still in the car.
